"Black Box" EDR (Event Data Recorder) Download & Analysis
Beginning with model year 2015, all new passenger vehicles sold in the USA are equipped with an event data recorder (EDR, commonly referred to as the "Black Box"). The majority of vehicles sold today in Australia are also equipped with EDR capabilities. The EDR is connected to the vehicle's airbag system and to the vehicle's internal computer. Information recorded by the EDR can include pre-crash and crash speeds; headlamp and brake status; engine speed; throttle use; and restraint use. The data obtained from the EDR is invaluable to the assessment of a collision.
