Using Mechanical Engineering and Newtonian Physics to uncover root causes
COLLISION RECONSTRUCTION & ROAD ACCIDENT CAUSATION
Vehicle crashes and crashworthiness is the specialty of Hindsight Forensic Engineering. We use fundamental Newtonian Physics to evaluate how and why road accidents occur. We scrutinize the physical forensic evidence in order to determine points of impact, crash orientations, and collision speeds. We also help to determine additional external factors which may have caused or contributed to a crash. Use of the newest technological innovations allows Hindsight Forensic Engineering to test and validate our theoretical opinions.
Hindsight Forensic Engineering has experience investigating thousands of vehicle collisions since 2001: from cars and heavy trucks to trams and trains. We are bound by the fundamental principle of forensic science: EVERY CONTACT LEAVES A TRACE. We use physical forensic evidence - tyre marks, debris, collision damage and points of rest - to determine how and why a crash has occurred. Our clients understand the positive impact of an independent professional collision analysis; involvement of an expert early on may reveal causal factors which will lead to better and faster resolutions. Get in touch today and see how you can benefit from our reconstruction services.
"Black Box" EDR (Event Data Recorder) Download & Analysis
Beginning with model year 2015, the United States government ruled that all new passenger vehicles sold in the USA be equipped with an event data recorder ('EDR' commonly referred to as the 'Black Box'). Following this ruling, the majority of new vehicles sold in Australia are also equipped with EDR capabilities. The EDR is connected to the vehicle's airbag system and to the vehicle's internal computer. Information recorded by the EDR can include pre-crash and crash speeds, headlamp and brake status, engine speed, throttle, and restraint use. The data obtained from the EDR is invaluable to the assessment of a collision. Hindsight Forensic Engineering utilizes Bosch-certified technicians and analysts to correctly and accurately obtain and assess EDR data. Please contact us to determine if your vehicle has a downloadable EDR system.
Roadway design can often be a critical factor in many collisions. Hindsight Forensic Engineering can help determine whether the design of a roadway caused or contributed to a collision. Our investigation includes an examination of historical site analysis; crash statistics for the site; a detailed site inspection; and a comparison with documented roadway design standards. Call Hindsight Forensic Engineering today if you suspect the design of a roadway may have been a factor in your specific case.
Pedestrian, Bicycle & Motorcycle Crashes
Due to the large mass difference between a human and a car or truck, pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists typically do not fare well when impacted. At Hindsight Forensic Engineering, we apply theoretical projectile motion equations in tandem with physical testing to uncover the collision circumstances. We assess the forensic evidence - lines of sight, the point of impact, the trajectories, the human and vehicle rest positions and the vehicle damage and human trauma - in order to tell you what likely occurred. Please call us to discuss how we can help you.
Heavy Truck & Bus Crashes
We are leading experts in investigating heavy vehicle crashes. Collisions involving heavy trucks can be complex and require specific expertise, which can only be obtained after years in the field. Our Director has spent 5 years volunteering on the board of the heavy vehicle Transport Industry Safety Group (TISG); who discuss trends and safety improvements relating to heavy vehicle crashes. We have audited the safety performance and in-field maintenance of major heavy vehicle fleets. We have also worked on several heavy vehicle inquests for the State Coroner. We are experts in scrutinising on-board CCTV, logbooks, maintenance records, telematics and GPS data. Call us today and find out how we can help with your heavy vehicle collision or incident.
Tram & Train Crashes
Although tram and train collisions and incidents are fairly uncommon, when these incidents occur, they can be catastrophic. The engineering analysis of a tram and train collision involves a detailed assessment of on-board CCTV footage and data logs. Our analysis often requires a comparison between the facts of the incident itself and documented standard operating procedures (SOPs). Please contact us to explore if this service meets your requirements.
Computer Simulations & Animations
It is well known that "a picture is worth a thousand words." Many underestimate the positive impact that a visual simulation or animation video can have on a jury or at a mediation. Simulation videos can give clients considerable leverage because they clearly and succinctly articulate a position. Contact Hindsight Forensic Engineering if you are interested in creating a compelling simulation or animation video for your case or client.
